Flight Cost for 6 Months Travelling with Kids

We had a plan to fly to Australia, get on a sailboat and sail to Cape Town Africa. Plans changed and we ended up flying to several different countries for our six month duration.

Below you will see our cost to fly with a family of four. All costs are in Canadian dollars, and are the total for all four of us. We do not have any credit cards that give great points options for flying, except the Westjet MasterCard, and even that isn’t the greatest when it comes to actually using your Westjet dollars.

Everywhere we went we needed to fly and we did not cross over any boarder between countries overland which, as you can see, added up very quickly.

Canada to Sydney Australia: $4687.90

Melbourne to Proserpine: $1319.39

Cairns to Denpasar: $1621.94

Denpasar to Bangkok: $683.21

Bangkok to Phuket: $320.12

Bangkok to Kathmandu: $1390.62

Kathmandu to Lukla return: $1889.81

Kathmandu to Cairo: $2087.92

Cairo to Aswan: $190.11

Cairo to Rome: $1017.38

Rome to Canada: $906.54 plus 1300 WestJet dollars

Grand total: $16114.94 CAD plus 1300 Westjet dollars

We’ve learned our lesson here, that flights really add up. Next time we will try and pick a destination where land border crossing can be done to save money to be able to put into travelling longer.
